Eighteenth Century French Louis XVI Barometer

This is a large eighteenth century French Louis XVI barometer containing its original scientific illustrations, manufacturers details and  'catherine wheel' thermometer (intact, but empty - minute hole at the top where the fluid has been drained). Overall size of frame 660mm tall x 600mm wide. I have shown how foliate carvings could be applied to the top and bottom of the original gilt frame. The visible split across the painted the dial is typical of this type of barometer - The basic dial is constructed from wooden planks and have shrunk over some 200 years, thus proving its originality. The barometer movement is missing (the original design was very crude and rarely functioned correctly). This instrument would benefit from fitting a simple aneroid barometer movement and attaching the original large barometer hand.

A lovely project and could be restored to a fabulous, period working instrument - similar models sell for in excess of £8000.
