This is a most unusual aneroid barometer, signed on the dial as Patent ‘Rapid Indicating’, the first I’ve seen in over 60 years. The pressure range of 28 to 31” spans virtually the whole dial, unlike typical barometers which have an overlap of an extra inch of pressure. This creates the extra sensitive movement of the barometer hand. Worth researching the patent! Retailed by well-known opticians and jewellers, James Lucking & Co., Birmingham, Leicester and Worcester, the polished Oak case is in the shape of a WW1 British Army steel combat Brodie helmet. Probably made during the later part of the war, or possibly just after as a patriotic reminder of the conflict.
245mm overall diameter x 57mm deep.
