This lovely polished oak barograph has a subsidiary barometer dial which is linked to the recording mechanism and is engraved with all the standard weather predictions, however, what makes the dial different from most others is the curved mercury thermometer reading Centigrade and Fahrenheit around the lower part of the disc. The figured oak case is very substantial; thick bevelled glass all round, a deep twin-compartment chart drawer with a further fixed hardwood base below - always a sign of traditional quality. The instrument sits on four deep block feet radiused in keeping with the style of the case. Although unsigned, it would have probably been made by Short and Mason and sold to a retailer, circa 1925. Short and Mason of London held the original patent for this design.
Supplied with 6 months of standard charts, a fresh bottle of recording ink and a copy of a reprinted 1950s Negretti & Zambra pamphlet describing operating instructions and help with interpreting barograph chart recordings.
375mm widw x 230mm deep x 227mm high.
