This is a very rare Victorian barometer from Havana, Cuba, signed by Jose M. Zarrabeitia, Mercaderes 10, Habana. The weather predictions around the dial are in Spanish, including four historic dates of low pressure cyclones, ie, hurricanes, from October 1837 to September 1888. One of these records, dated 11 October 1846 refers to an astonishing low pressure reading of 27.1". The working aneroid movement can be seen through the open dial. Above is a mercury thermometer reading in Centigrade & Fahrenheit against a porcelain face. There is a 195mm diameter brass bezel with bevelled glass & original set hand & the case is in ebonized hardwood.
