An interesting barograph in a metal case by Negretti & Zambra London, with the late serial number R/44071. I would date this to the 1970s, around the time when the company were seeking to rekindle industrial markets requiring robust and durable instruments and away from traditional barographs with polished hardwood cases. They did produce a limited number of these 50 years earlier in the late 1920s as shown in their E2 Engineering catalogue. In the extract from that brochure you can see the old style individual barograph capsules as well as the early pen arm pressure adjuster and the outer case was usually in copper.
This modern version has the concertina stack and the pen arm 'gate' type suspension. A very sensitive instrument in excellent all round working condition. The sturdy metal case has a Hammerite finish in grey without any dings or dents, there is one full width glass panel to the front and a circular metal grill to one of the side panels and rubber feet to the base.
There was some sign of light rusting along a couple of welded seams inside the case which has been attended to and certainly not noticeable.
A selection of weekly charts will be included together with a fresh bottle of recording ink, red or blue, and a re-printed copy of a pamphlet by Negretti & Zambra describing operating instructions and the interpretation of various chart recordings.
