This is a particularly rare and interesting barograph made by Short & Mason but retailed through Kelvin Bottomley & Baird, Glasgow. Unusually, this instrument is fitted with a polished mahogany case complete with bevelled glass and a chart drawer to the base. Described by the makers as 'for your research laboratory', this instrument has a magnification of more than double that of the standard barograph and has a high degree of sensitivity and, according to the extract from the trade catalogue, see pic, actual movements of the pen are plainly during storms or atmospheric disturbances. (This includes the recent volcanic eruption in the Pacific!).
In summary, this barograph combines the technical advantages of a quality and highly sensitive instrument with the timeless beauty of a hardwood case that will grace any home, office or public space.
