Short and Mason Barograph with Mirror.

This is a mid-twentieth century barograph signed by Short and Mason of London with serial number D 7148. The polished oak case features a mirror set into the back panel of the 5-glass lift-off lid which reflects the silver lacquered movement allowing the observer to view chart readings from earlier in the week. The silvered finish was often used in the production of barograph movements during WW2 instead of polished brass to avoid glare in strong sunlight or close lighting.

There is a two-compartment drawer for new and used charts to the base as well a further oak panel below the drawer - often found in Edwardian barograph cases.

A quantity of weekly charts together with a fresh bottle of recording ink are included and also a reprinted period pamphlet by Negretti & Zambra Ltd describing operating instructions and how to interpret typical chart recordings.
